Chinese New Year is one of our favourite moments in the calendar at Kin Wellness — a chance to reset, reflect, and gently ask: how’s my energy really doing?
This year we’re stepping into the Year of the Fire Horse, which in Chinese philosophy is… let’s say not a year for hiding under a duvet (tempting though that may be, especially with all this weather we've been having!).
So, what’s all this Fire Horse energy about?
The Horse is all about movement, freedom and independence. It likes to get going, change direction quickly, and follow its own path. Think momentum, motivation and a strong inner “let’s do this”.
Add Fire, the element linked to the Heart, joy, connection and the nervous system, and you’ve got a year that’s:
Fast-paced
Expressive
Passionate
Occasionally a bit… full-on
Fire Horse energy can feel exciting and inspiring — but it can also have us saying yes to everything, sleeping less, and wondering why our nervous system feels like it’s had three espressos.
What you might notice this year
In a Fire Horse year, it’s common to see:
Busy minds and busy diaries
Big ideas and sudden urges for change
More emotional sensitivity (both the joy and the overwhelm)
A tendency to run on adrenaline rather than fuel
From a Chinese medicine perspective, this is classic Heart and Fire energy — wonderful when balanced, exhausting when it’s not. Like a kids party that has gone on waaaay too long!
How to work with the year (not get dragged behind it)
This year isn’t asking you to stop moving — just to move with awareness.
Helpful questions for 2026 might be:
Is this excitement… or am I overtired?
Am I doing this because it lights me up — or because I can’t slow down?
When was the last time I actually rested?
Balance is the key theme. Fire needs warmth and containment, not constant stoking.
How acupuncture can help in a Fire Horse year
Acupuncture is brilliant for helping the body turn the volume down when Fire runs high, and gently topping up energy when life gets a bit too enthusiastic.
Many people find treatments especially helpful this year for:
Stress, anxiety and feeling “wired but tired”
Sleep issues
Emotional ups and downs
Burnout and overdoing it
Staying grounded during periods of change
At Kin Wellness, we see the Year of the Fire Horse as an invitation to reconnect with joy without burning out — to follow what matters to you, while keeping your nervous system on side.
So by all means, run with the energy of the year — just remember to pause, breathe, and maybe book in some acupuncture along the way.
